»29. Decoration and Themes

Depending on the event, decorations can be a key element. Please remember the following when purchasing, making and setting up decorations.

FIRE PREVENTION

Reference: Chapman University Fire Prevention guidelines in Section 8 - Fire Prevention

Decorations should not violate any fire or safety codes.

  • Avoid using flammable paper (ex. posters, butcher paper to cover walls, streamers). Fire-retardant paper is available.
  • Do not block doors/fire exits

POSTING AND FACILITIES

Contact: Facilities Management - (714)-997-6658
  • Ensure that cords (ex. electrical & extension cords) are taped down so that people do not trip. Decorations should not leave marks on the walls or surfaces to which they are attached (example; pin holes, tape marks).
  • Hanging decorations from light fixtures and ceilings can be hazardous. Contact Facilities to ensure safe hanging of decorations.

INAPPROPRIATE AND/OR OFFENSIVE
