»Masters of Science in Accounting

The Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) program is designed to qualify graduates to sit for the California CPA exam while obtaining a master’s degree. Students will pursue the degree in a highly personalized learning environment. The 30 credit MSA program offers students:

  • A keen understanding of the strategic role of accounting in business organizations
  • The ability to apply ethical principles and responsibilities in accounting 
  • Expertise in the field using relevant academic and professional research
  • The ability to communicate effectively and persuasively

The MSA program provides students with the flexibility to create their own schedule based on undergraduate accounting courses completed. Students will have an opportunity to complete business courses offered in our AACSB accredited MBA program. The program may be completed in 10 months. Classes meet in the afternoon and evening.

How to Apply to the MSA Program

  • Submit online application
  • Upload resume
  • Upload Personal Statement (prompt is available by accessing the application)
  • Completion of prerequisite coursework
  • Mail official academic transcript from undergraduate degree granting institution to:

  • Request to have official Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) score reported
  • Upload contact information for two recommenders. A recommender should be familiar with the applicant’s academic or professional abilities

International Applicants

In addition to the steps listed above:

  • Submit score on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or the Pearson Test of English (PTE)
  • Submit copy of your diploma
  • Complete the financial statement form required for the student visa

You may submit your application with your uploaded statement of intent and the contact information of 2 recommenders, then submit transcripts and test scores when available.

Who should send a letter of recommendation?
The most useful recommendations are those from individuals who are able to speak with certainty about your professional and/or academic achievements and potential in regards to specific observations and examples of your leadership, teamwork, analytical skills and personal qualities. It is important, for those who are currently employed, that at least one of your evaluators be someone in a position to judge your professional performance.

Do you require essays as part of the application? If yes, what is the recommended length of the essay?
Yes, one Statement of Intent is required. Your response should be a maximum of 600 words and should state the reasons you aspire to attend Chapman University’s MSA program. Please discuss your career and personal goals, and how receiving your graduate degree from Chapman University will assist you in attaining your goals. The essay may be uploaded directly to the application system.

What are the first steps in the financial aid process?
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required of all U.S. citizens and permanent residents who wish to apply for federal student loans. To expedite processing federal loan applications, we recommend that you complete the FAFSA as early as you can.

What is the tuition rate?
The fall 2014 tuition is $1,200/unit.
