+-Janes Financial Center Residency Program

The Residency Program is a group of high level finance students dedicated to developing their practical skill set to bridge the gap between the classroom and a career in the finance industry.

Students in the program are challenged to apply their financial knowledge in innovative ways by participating in consulting projects for major investment firms in Orange County and by competing in regional and international investment competitions held through the CFA Society Orange County and the CFA Institute. Residents are also given the opportunity to contribute to the Janes Financial Center publication, The Investment Review

Applications to become a part of the program open at the end of each the spring semester and are open to all students!

+-Bloomberg Certifications

Getting Bloomberg certified is easy and free for Chapman students, faculty and staff! Simply log on to the terminal, enter the command mnemonic at the top of the screen and begin. Why should I be Bloomberg certified? With a Bloomberg certification, you'll learn the language of finance, get Bloomberg on your resume, and discover the inner workings of the markets.

There are two certifications available: Bloomberg Essentials and Bloomberg Market Concepts. Both are 8-hour, self-paced, e-learning courses that provide an interactive introduction into using Bloomberg for researching the financial markets.

Bloomberg Essentials Certification

Bloomberg Essentials is designed to help students become familiar with basic navigation, Bloomberg News, and some of the most commonly used Bloomberg functions. To obtain a Bloomberg Essentials Certification, enter BESS in the command line at the top of the screen and press <go>. This series of videos and assessment tests consists of 2 major sections: the Core Essentials training and the Market Sector Essentials training. Once each of the required videos have been viewed and their corresponding assessment tests have been completed with a passing score, Bloomberg will issue a certificate of completion.

Bloomberg Market Concepts Certification

Bloomberg Market Concepts covers the basics of financial markets, helping students learn what moves markets and drives valuations. In addition, BMC helps students familiarize themselves with key benchmarks To obtain a Bloomberg Market Concepts Certification, enter BMC in the command line at the top of the screen and press <go>. BMC consists of four major sections: Economics, Currencies, Fixed Income, and Equities. Once each of the required videos have been viewed and their corresponding assessment tests have been completed with a passing score, Bloomberg will issue a certificate of completion.

+-Bloomberg Aptitude Test

The Bloomberg Aptitude Test (BAT) is a two-hour, one hundred question, online exam designed to help students gauge how well equipped they are for a career in finance. The BAT gives students a measure to assess their aptitude in eight key performance areas required for all major finance roles including: chart and graph analysis, global markets, investment banking, financial statement analysis, analytical reasoning, math skills, economics and news analysis.

After taking the BAT, students can opt to have their score included in Bloomberg's online talent search database, where recruiters from over 20,000 companies connect with candidates to fill open internships and full time positions. Each test session is held in the Janes Financial Center, located on the second floor of Beckman Hall, room 207.
