Career
Advising: Individual
career advising is available to assist students in developing career goals,
determining methods of obtaining these goals, and implementing a viable plan
for an effective job search or additional education.
Resume
& Cover Letter Critique: The
purpose of the resume is to get you an interview! Designed to positively and
accurately reflect your experience, education, and qualifications, we review
and coach on resume and cover letter techniques to ensure a successful job
search. An effective resume should be tailored for the type of position
for which you are applying --- schedule an appointment to find
out if your resume is on the right track.
Practice
Interviewing: The best way to learn good interviewing skills is to practice as often
as possible. The OCPP, through its 20/20
Interview program, gives students that opportunity. Students will have a 20
minute video-taped interview session with a career counselor, followed by a 20
minute critique. Students should meet with a career counselor for a resume
review and discussion on interview strengths and weaknesses in advance, and are
expected to wear business-appropriate attire to the 20/20 Interview. Please schedule practice interviews here (and select Alexis Woods in the staff pulldown).
Career
Leader Assessment: This assessment test is based on the belief that if students understand
their skills, interests, and motivators this will in turn help direct them to
future career success and satisfaction. The test is self directed and takes
about 1 ½ hours to complete. Before taking the test, students will need to
participate in a pre session with a career counselor, followed by a post
session to go over test results and next steps. Please schedule Career Leader Assessment here (and select Alexis Woods in the staff pulldown).
Career
Management Workshops: Throughout the year, the OCPP conducts workshops that examine and
discuss topics relevant to a student’s career campaign. These workshops range
from resume writing to networking to salary negotiation, and usually consist of
a small group of students to encourage questions and the exchange of ideas. On
occasion, these workshops are conducted by alums with professional experience,
and others in the business community familiar with career management topics.
