»Our Strategic Plan - A Top 50 Program In 5 Years

The George L. Argyros School of Business and Economics experience prepares students to become business leaders in an ever-changing society. Societal and economic challenges, globalization, and diversity are shaping the new knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values that leaders require. By addressing these needs through a practical lens, the School successfully educates students to become tomorrow's leaders.

The Argyros School is recognized as an outstanding institution by BusinessWeek, U. S. News & World Report, Entrepreneur, Princeton Review and other leading publications.

We recently completed a strategic analysis of our progress in these five areas to assess where we should focus our resources to improve on our success to date.  The plan has three core pillars, developed based on what we have learned in assessing our progress to date. The three pillars are – Program Excellence, Industry Partnerships, and Brand Prominence.

To give to the Dean's Fund for Excellence in support of our strategic vision, please contact Senior Director of Development Debra Finster at finster@chapman.edu or 1-714-516-4572.

Program Excellence

Program Excellence

Program excellence will begin by creating an MBA program which is ranked among the best in the nation, to include the following:

  • A new scholarship program – we will drive a large increase in incoming student quality through 10 new merit-based scholarships for full time MBA students. Higher average GMAT scores, years of work experience, and placement rates will directly impact the classroom experience, starting salaries and rankings.

  • Broader marketing will lead to more applications. Through marketing enhancements (attending more recruiting conferences, international recruiting, more advertising, etc.) we will increase the number of applications for our MBA program from about 100 applications annually to 400. This will greatly improve our selectivity ratings.

  • New course offerings will be added to help the Argyros School to become nationally “known for” applied business education. Two new quantitative courses will be added, based on input from the business community. These will exercise the analytical tools and techniques which are common in the business world today. We will also be adding courses which allow students to connect and practice what they learn to real for-profit and not-for profit businesses.
  • We will also become a recognized leader in career placement. We will lengthen the MBA program duration, adding career placement seminars throughout (resume writing, interview training, etc.) and also allowing for more internship opportunities.

Industry Partnerships

Industry Partnerships

Industry Partnerships involve creating strong 2-way partnerships with several businesses in industries where strong job growth is projected; these partnerships will enhance the application of business concepts for our students across both undergraduate and graduate programs.

  • Students get: classroom visits by company executives, company visits, internships, case studies, consulting projects, fellowships, internships, and full time placements.

  • Partners get: new/tailored economic forecasts, hosted conferences, executive education opportunities, sponsored research in the industries of focus, a voice in curriculum development, and fulfillment of their workforce needs.

  • Our initial focus will be on businesses in 4 industries: accounting, health care, real estate and finance; we also will pursue partner opportunities in entrepreneurship and not-for-profit organizations, including where they overlap with the targeted industries.

Brand Prominence

Brand Prominence

Brand Prominence means building a strong Argyros Business School brand that is well known nationwide. We will close the ranking “perception gap” that we discovered in our assessment work by creating stronger impressions of our school among deans, recruiters, students and alumni.
  • Rated #3 by Newsweek Magazine on their Most Beautiful Campus list, we will add events hosting Dean’s and also Academic Conferences to showcase both our content expertise and campus.

  • We will publish where it helps – in top tier journals and also those recognized by the ranking institutions (Bloomberg Business Week, Financial Times).

  • We will make a dedicated commitment to academic advising for our undergraduate students.

  • We will increase alumni engagement and pride in our school.
