Dr. Clas WihlborgDr. Clas Wihlborg, Fletcher Jones Chair in International Business, was a guest columnist in the Orange County Register on Nov. 23, 2008 with an article titled "What to do about greed? Institutional reforms are needed; strict regulation otherwise looms".


Kathuria_RDr. Ravi Kathuria recently published a paper titled, “International Growth Strategies of Service and Manufacturing Firms: The Case of Banking and Chemical Industries,” in the International Journal of Operations & Production Management, Volume 28(10), pp. 968-990. This is a cross-functional study that uses longitudinal data from secondary sources with significant implications for operations managers and researchers. The findings are relevant for developing operations strategy, including location alternatives, for both manufacturing and service firms as different nations become a part of the global village. Appropriate modes of entry in an international arena for both service and manufacturing firms are identified. Dr. Kathuria is a professor at the Argyros School of Business and Economics and holds the James L and Lynne P Doti Chair in Operations Management.


Hurley-Hansen_ADr. Cristina M. Giannantonio Dr. Amy E. Hurley-Hanson and Cristina M. Giannantonio recently won an award at the Academy of Management. The won BEST SYMPOSIUM 2008 in the Management Education and Development Division. The Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management is the largest annual gathering of management scholars in the world. This year it was attended by more than 9,500 people. Their winning symposium was titled “The Real O.C.: A Peek Behind the Scenes to Find the Questions We Need to Ask”. Their symposium addressed the ways that universities, management professors, corporations, and nonprofit agencies can work together to solve the human and social justice problems that exist in our communities. The panelists included executive directors from several non-profit organizations including Catholic Charities of Orange County, Wise Place (a transitional shelter for homeless women serving all of Orange County), and Orange County’s Habitat for Humanity. The panel also included Steven Buckley (CEO and President of Gianna Rose Atelier) and Dr. Arthur Kraft, Dean of the Argyros School of Business and Economics, Robert J. and Carolyn A. Waltos, Jr. Chair in Business and Economics and immediate Past Chair of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). In addition to wining the award the symposium was selected as having specific relevance to service-learning and this information was announced to all academy members.


Dr. Clas WihlborgDr. Clas Wihlborg, Fletcher Jones Chair in International Business, participated in a conference on "A Financial Stability Framework for Europe" organized by the International Monetary Fund and the Center for Financial Studies, Goethe University, in Frankfurt on Sept. 26.   The conference brings together leading academics, practitioners, and senior policy makers to discuss the European financial stability framework, taking into account the recent financial turmoil as well as ongoing policy developments.


Dr.Praveen SinhaDr. Praveen Sinha, Associate Professor of Accounting, presented his research paper entitled, Evidence of Differential Property of Analysts’ Earnings Forecast Variance in Good-News and Bad-News Environments and its Usefulness (co-authored with Davit Adut & P. K. Sen) at the Annual American Accounting Association Meeting held in Anaheim, CA from August 5-8, 2008.  Professor Sinha was also a discussant for another research paper at this prestigious conference.


Dr. Kate KarniouchinaDr. Kate Karniouchina, Assistant Professor of Marketing, has published four cross-disciplinary studies. One is a special report titled “Consumer Response to TV Stock Recommendations: Merging Financial and Marketing Perspectives” (with William Moore and Kevin Cooney) and has been published by the Marketing Science Institute. Another article “Exploring the Use of the Abbreviated Technology Readiness Index for Hotel Customer Segmentation” with Liana Victorino and Rohit Verma has been accepted for publication in Cornell Hospitality Quarterly. Another report “Exploring Consumer Reactions to Tipping Guidelines: Implications for Service Quality,” with Liana Victorino and Rohit Verma has been published by the Center for Hospitality Research at Cornell University's Hotel School. And finally, a paper titled “Issues in the Use of Rating-Based versus Choice-Based Conjoint Analysis” (with William Moore, Bo Van der Rhee, and Rohit Verma) has been accepted for publication in the European Journal of Operational Research.
