David May Assistant Director of Admission dmay@chapman.edu Admission Blog/New Media Resources
Biography in Brief: David graduated cum laude from Chapman in 2005 with a degree in film production from Chapman’s renowned Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. As a student, David engaged in a variety of campus activities and employment options including serving as a Chapman Ambassador, Orientation Coordinator, President of his Greek Orginization, Dodge College intern, and intern for the Admission Office. David was also recognized as a Student Leader and was honored with awards such as the Spirit of Chapman, and Student Leader of the Year. David grew up in Colorado and enjoys returning to the state during his fall travel.

Advice from David: I think college fairs are not generally utilized in the best way possible. Many folks at college fairs ask us very ‘googleable’ questions. I recommend getting all of the ‘googleable’ questions answered before you arrive at the college fair so that you are able to develop and ask the ‘non-googleable’ questions to the people standing behind the table. I think that will provide a more valuable experience for both prospective students, and admission officials.
David's favorite spot on campus: I’d have to say the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. I received my undergraduate degree from Chapman’s Film program, and am currently attending graduate school there. The technology is amazing, the faculty is incredible, and the collaborative vibe can’t be beat.
David's best admission memory: I was preparing to drive in my small, economy sized rental car from Aspen to Vail and it was my very first year on the road. I programmed the GPS to take me from Aspen to Vail and hit GO. Now, being from Colorado I should have known better, but the GPS was taking me OVER The mountain instead of AROUND it. I didn’t question it, and before I know it I’m on a very small dirt road. Parts of this road should definitely only be enjoyed by SUVs or trucks, but here’s my economy sized rental car clinging on to the steep drop offs and sharp inclines for dear life. Once at the top, a herd of cows were blocking the road. Movies don’t exaggerate – cows do not move for cars… no matter what. Long story short, if you are ever traveling between Aspen and Vail, go around the mountain – don’t explore the ‘cottonwood pass.’
David's best Chapman memory: It’s truly impossible to single out. Participation in my Greek Orginization was priceless, as was working in student transitions on the Orientation Program. However, I’d have to say that my participation in the Location Filmmaking program the interterm of my junior year was probably the all time highlight. Those of us that met on that short film stick together even to this day. It was also great fun to follow the film to Festivals and enter it into competitions.
