Leatherby Libraries Celebrate Abraham Lincoln on His Birthday, Feb. 12

Thursday, February 12 Doy and Dee Henley Reading Room, 2nd Floor, Leatherby Libraries The Fascination of Lincoln: Celebrating the Lincoln Bicentennial and the Legacy of Harmon Wilkinson 4 p.m. Please join the staff of the Leatherby Libraries and the Wilkinson family to celebrate the birth of Abraham Lincoln, our 16th President, and to honor the memory of Trustee Emeritus Harmon Wilkinson ’35, and his beloved wife Nadine Wilkinson ’44. In keeping with his deep and abiding fascination of Lincoln, Harmon Wilkinson amassed a collection of more than 400 books on Lincoln and the Civil War, which now have been donated to the Leatherby Libraries. Part of the program to celebrate Lincoln and to honor Harmon includes a talk by trustee Karen Wilkinson ’69 that delves into her father’s fascination with Lincoln. There will also be a recitation of the Gettysburg Address by President Doti, an excerpt from the Second Inaugural Address, and a responsive reading of Lincoln’s Thanksgiving Proclamation led by Beth Wilkinson Larson and Wayne Wilkinson. Following the formal program, there will be a reception at 5:30 p.m. in the 4th-floor lobby of the library, just outside the Frank Mt. Pleasant Library of Special Collections and Archives, featuring music and food of the mid-nineteenth century. Additionally, you are invited to view the display in the Special Collections library that includes the Wilkinson Lincoln collection and many Lincoln photographs and period items. Admission is free.
