Chapman University Law Review Symposium:
Lincoln's Constitutionalism in Time of War: Lessons for the War on Terror?

The Chapman University School of Law’s 11th Annual Law Review Symposium, endorsed as an official event of the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial, will include three panels that will compare Lincoln’s wartime policies with those of today during the War on Terror. The Symposium’s keynote speaker will be Harry V. Jaffa, Distinguished Visiting Professor at the Chapman University School of Law. The three panels are: “Suspending Rights to Sustain Public Safety: Wartime Suspensions of Habeas Corpus by Presidents Lincoln and Bush,” “What Would Lincoln Do? Constitutional Approaches to Wartime Finance and Economics,” and “Civil Liberties for Civil Rights: Justifying Wartime Decline of Civil Liberties by a Gain in Civil Rights.” Panelists include John Yoo, Fletcher Jones Distinguished Visiting Professor of Law at Chapman University; Kyndra Rotunda, Visiting Assistant Professor at Chapman School of Law; Jonathan Hafetz, staff attorney in ACLU’s National Security Project; John Eastman, dean of the Chapman School of Law; Robert Auerbach, professor of public affairs at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas; Michael Bernstein, provost of Tulane University; Robert Pushaw, James Wilson Endowed Professor of Law at Pepperdine University School of Law, and many others.
