 Faculty Statement on the Environment
(April 14, 2008)

The faculty members of Chapman University are committed to policies and practices designed to improve environmental conditions and move toward sustainability. Our commitment is rooted in the idea of responsible stewardship of our environment. As environmental stewards, we believe it is prudent to move toward the development and implementation of responsible conservation and adaptation policies. We strive to provide leadership in our communities and throughout greater society by modeling ways to promote environmental sustainability, by contributing to the knowledge base, and by educating students about climate neutral and sustainable environments. We are committed to addressing environmental challenges in a number of ways, including but not limited to (1) developing and implementing sustainable environment practices (e.g., recycling, energy efficiency, and “green” construction), (2) promoting public awareness of environmental issues, and (3) incorporating the study of the environment into the curriculum, thereby better serving our students and meeting our mission to prepare inquiring, ethical and productive global citizens.
