Federal Work-Study

If you supervise work/Study students, you should keep track of their earnings to be able to accurately project costs for your department. Every month, we send a report that shows earnings for work-study students in your department, and how much of their award is remaining. This report is based on earnings for the entire fiscal year, so students no longer working in your department will continue to be reflected on the report.

Here are some tips for managing work-study students in your department:

  • Keep track of your students earnings. We will transfer students that have exceeded their award to non-Work-Study automatically, so it is usually not necessary to request that change yourself. However, it is important to be able to estimate when the change will occur so you can budget appropriately. If your department does not wish to transfer a student to non-Work-Study, contact us to make other arrangements.

  • Remember that Work-Study will only apply during the academic-year employment term (Aug. 31st - May 31st).

  • If you would like to know the amount of work-study remaining for one of your employees, you may either check the report we send monthly, or Contact Us. Our information will generally reflect earnings as of the 26th of the prior month.

  • If you have an open position, you may also call us to find out if a candidate has a Work-Study award.
