Overview for Students

To locate employment opportunities on-campus, follow the three steps below. Benefits you may gain from working on campus include:

  • Campus employers who can often work around your class and exam schedules
  • Minimal travel time between your classes and your employer (not having to give up that parking spot)
  • Opportunities to establish references and acquire skills that will make you more marketable upon graduation.

Three Easy Steps to Securing a Position on Campus

  1. Locate Position Openings
To locate employment opportunities on-campus, utilize the On-campus Job Search function (FMP) and contact the employer directly. You may also visit the Student Employment Office and look through our on-campus job binders (these are the same positions as listed on the web page).
  2. Contact an Employer for an Interview
Students should contact employers directly to apply for position openings. Supervisors will usually contact you to schedule an interview if they have an interest in you for the position. Once you have been offered and accepted a position, do not start working until you have completed the next step!
  3. Complete the Appropriate Paperwork
    Once you are hired:
    • Your supervisor will either give you a Student Employment Form (SEF, the pink sheet as we call it) or send you over to the Student Employment Office to pick one up for your position if they currently do not have one.
    • Once the SEF is completed and all the appropriate signatures have been obtained, you will return the form to the Student Employment Office.
In addition to the SEF if you have never worked on campus, you must:
    • Personally report to the Student Employment Office with two forms of I.D. Some examples of acceptable documents include: a Chapman University photo I.D. or a valid current driver's license and an original signed Social Security Card. An entire list of acceptable documents can be obtained on this website.
    • After proper I.D. is established, you will be required to complete employment forms including Federal and State tax forms, the Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification, and a Student Work Agreement.
    • Please note that regardless of what forms of I.D. you use to satisfy the I-9 form requirement, we will still need to see your original signed Social Security Card per IRS/Social Security Administration rules (employers are required to make sure that the name we use for your payroll records match your social security card).
In addition to the SEF if you have worked on campus before, you must:
    • Personally report to the Student Employment Office to turn in the SEF and to complete a new Student Work Agreement, Federal and State tax forms.
You may not begin working until everything has been approved by Student Employment Office. We must verify enrollment and depending on the position Federal Work Study awards. This process only takes 24 - 48 hours. Your supervisor will be notified when this approval has been given and you may then begin working.
