Workshops

Since its incorporation in 1997, the International Foundation for Research in Experimental Economics (IFREE), has generously sponsored separate summer workshops for visiting graduate students, undergraduates, and local area high school students.
The purpose of these workshops is to introduce students to experimental economics, attract potential students to economics, and identify promising students for internships and pre- and post-doctoral fellowships.
January 5-9, 2010 IFREE will sponsor its Fifteenth Graduate Student Workshop in Experimental Economics at ESI. This workshop is free for graduate students who are interested in using experimental economics in their PhD dissertation research. Each participant is responsible for their own travel to and from the workshop. Local hotel arrangements will be covered by a generous grant from IFREE. Participants will also be paid cash earnings from the experiments each day. Thus, as part of their learning experience, participants will earn additional money needed to offset their travel expenses for attending the workshop. All international students must receive approval from Chapman University’s international student office in order to receive payments from the experiments.
The Vernon L. Smith High School Workshop in Experimental Economics is designed to introduce high school students to the study of economics using laboratory methods. Two week long workshops will be offered in July 2010 for local southern California commuters and for traveling participants. High school students earn cash daily from participating in experiments. Next year we have a limited number of travel scholarships available for students who are not from southern California. Local students will be responsible for their transportation to and from the workshop. For information and how to apply for these workshops, please follow the links on the left.
