Chapman University’s certificate in Quantum Studies provides the recipient
with a background in basic modern physics along with cutting edge research
ranging from the most profound concepts in modern science to more practical
technological revolutions such as ultra-powerful computers and unbreakable
codes to protect communications. In many ways, Chapman's Certificate in Quantum
Studies is unique: it blends pure and applied quantum physics that is of
interest to the academic, commercial, and military sectors. Indeed, the
subject matter of the Certificate has been identified by many government
agencies as critical. For example, The White House recently stated “The United
States’ large stake in all these potential applications warrants a cohesive
national effort to achieve and maintain leadership in the rapidly emerging
field of quantum information science.”
Breakthroughs in theoretical physics (such as those made by Einstein, Maxwell, and Newton) have had some of the biggest societal impacts, and at the lowest costs. For example, the picture at the left depicts the first of the “Solvay” conferences. All of the founding fathers of the most successful theory in history (quantum mechanics) are depicted here. In fact, because of the work of these few, quantum theory resulted in more than half of the entire US Gross Domestic Product. The picture to the right illustrates the recent 100th anniversary of this conference, mostly comprised of Nobel Laureates along with one of the instructors for the Certificate, who was recently voted in a worldwide poll as the most likely Nobel recipient in coming years. In addition, there will be guest lecturers who are also some of the most recognized scientific names in the world.
