»Frequently Asked Questions about Scholarships and Grants

How do I find out if I am eligible for a Cal Grant?

The California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) will begin sending email notifications to students in February.  Since we may not have the final Cal Grant award information at the time of awarding, we will estimate a Cal Grant award as part of the financial assistance package if we determine preliminary eligibility to receive it.  This award is not official until confirmation has been received by CSAC and we verify the student’s financial information.  You may check your status by visiting the California Student Aid Commission web site.  You will need to create an account with CSAC the first time you access the site.

Am I required to complete the GPA Verification From every year?

Students are only required to complete the GPA Verification Form initially when applying for a Cal Grant.  Once they have received a Cal Grant, it will automatically be renewed each year, provided they complete the FAFSA, demonstrate Need, and maintain a minimum 2.00 GPA.  For students who were admitted to Chapman prior to the current year’s spring semester and who have at least 24 college credits, we will send your GPA Verification electronically to the California Student Aid Commission.

How does a talent scholarship affect my financial aid package?

Scholarship and grant funds provided by the University may not, in themselves or when combined with state grants, exceed the cost of tuition.  Scholarships will be applied to the student’s federal unmet need and any remaining scholarship money will reduce the student’s loans and/or federal work study award.
