Chapman University is developing a Physician Assistant Studies graduate program. The program will consist of didactic and clinical curricular excellence that will confer a Master of Medical Science (MMS) degree that will lead to the successful national certification and subsequent licensure of program graduates. The first entering cohort is proposed for January 2015.
The program will be housed in the new state-of-the-art Harry and Diane Rinker Health Sciences Campus in Irvine, California. The facility is currently in planning and development and will accommodate the educational needs of the program. The existing Physical Therapy program and the new School of Pharmacy will also be housed at this facility.
The information provided herein is in draft form only and will be updated on a regular basis on this website.
The goal of the program is to create a viable collaborative, inter-professional learning experience that will attract high quality students and faculty necessary to prepare health care professionals entering the health care workforce and meet the needs of the surrounding and global communities.
The founding program director, Michael Estrada, MS, DHSc, PA-C, has begun drafting the structure and curriculum of the program in preparation for provisional accreditation and is currently searching for highly qualified, motivated and innovative physician assistant educators and content experts.
Chapman University has applied for provisional accreditation from the Accreditation Review Commission on the Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). Chapman University anticipates matriculating its first class in January 2015, pending provisional accreditation from ARC-PA. Provisional accreditation is an accreditation status for a new PA program that has not yet enrolled students, but at the time of its comprehensive accreditation review, has demonstrated its preparedness to initiate a program in accordance with the accreditation standards.
