Chapman University Dale E. Fowler School of Law seeks to admit stellar students who are passionately interested in a legal education that will challenge them to grow intellectually, ethically, and professionally.

There are many factors utilized in the decision making process. We do not use an index system and each application is individually reviewed. The applicant’s entire file is considered in the review process. In examining applications, we not only look at your cumulative undergraduate GPA and LSAT score(s), but also consider additional components in determining the potential to succeed in law school. Such indicators include:

  • nature and rigor of undergraduate discipline
  • an upward trend in academic performance
  • types of courses completed
  • writing ability
  • work experience
  • graduate level courses taken and degrees earned
  • scholarly achievements
  • community and volunteer service
  • research projects
  • demonstrated leadership ability (clubs, organizations, etc.)
  • fluency in foreign languages

Personal Statement: Chapman University Fowler School of Law seeks a diverse student body that will make a meaningful contribution to the School of Law and ultimately to the legal profession.

Letters of Recommendation: We take seriously the observations offered about you by your chosen recommenders.

Resume:  You are encouraged to list any scholastic honors, relevant experience, work or volunteer, as well as other activities on your resume.  Please include hours per week.  Provide information that will complement your application.

+ - Qualifications for Admission to the Bar

In addition to a bar examination, there are character, fitness, and other qualifications for admission to the bar in every U.S. jurisdiction. Applicants are encouraged to determine the requirements for any jurisdiction in which they intend to seek admission by contacting the jurisdiction. Addresses for all relevant agencies are available through the National Conference of Bar Examiners.

Chapman University Fowler School of Law’s academic programs provide the best of both worlds: foundational accredited legal instruction coupled with a varied selection of specific concentrations, joint degrees, and LL.M's.  Our highly experienced professors provide supportive and personalized education in classes with consistently small faculty/student ratios. Some highlights of the expanding program include:

  • Our newest emphasis program in Business Law enhances student’s legal knowledge with the fundamental language of business, including principles of international business, mergers and acquisitions, business start-ups, bankruptcy, and taxation.
  • Our emphasis program in Entertainment Law, the first of its kind in the nation, is designed to tap into the synergy arising from the powerhouse Dodge College of Film and Media Arts at Chapman University.
  • Additional emphasis offerings include Advocacy and Dispute Resolution, Environmental, Land Use & Real Estate (ENLURE), International Law and Tax Law.
  • A joint JD/MBA is offered in conjunction with Chapman's acclaimed George L. Argyros School of Business and Economics.
  • A new JD/MFA in Film & Television Producing provides additional opportunities for hands-on learning in conjunction with Chapman's Dodge College of Film and Media Arts.
