»About the Center for Global Education

The Center for Global Education works closely with the Chapman community to provide students and scholars with international educational opportunities. Global citizenship is a high priority for Chapman, and we offer thousands of courses in hundreds of locations worldwide for students to partake global experiences.

The CGE collaborates with multiple departments and faculty on campus to prepare students throughout the entire study abroad process: the application, pre-departure, while abroad, and returning. We also welcome international and exchange students and prepare them for life at Chapman. The CGE hosts many conferences and events throughout the year to engage the Chapman community in global citizenship on campus.

Our staff are experts in international education and seek ways to increase student engagement in overseas programs.  We represent Chapman in international education organizations and conferences around the world.

+-Mission & Vision

The mission of the Center for Global Education is to drive the university's global enterprises by: providing opportunities that meet the needs and contribute to the holistic education of students; inspiring the Chapman community to look beyond their immediate borders; and effectively serving our international and domestic constituents.

Our vision is to be an internationally recognized model and university of choice for academic partners engaged in global education.

+-History of Global Education at Chapman

Global educational opportunities first started at Chapman in 1965 with the creation of the World Campus Afloat program.  Chapman was the academic sponsor for World Campus Afloat (now known as Semester at Sea) until 1975. In the mid-90s, the campus was divided in two departments: study abroad and international student services. Soon, these two offices were reunited as education abroad grew over the years.

In 2004, the Center for Global Education was created as a centralized location for international activities at Chapman, bringing together study abroad and international student services.  Since then, the CGE has expanded to include semester and academic year study abroad, interterm and summer travel courses, summer international internships and international student and scholar services.  The Center for Global Education is committed to Chapman University’s mission for students to lead “productive lives as global citizens.”
