DECEMBER 03, 2012

Chapman Community,

In the recent months we sent you crime alerts concerning reports of male suspects touching female students in areas around the campus. Public Safety has worked diligently with the Orange Police Department in an effort to solve these crimes. We are pleased to share with our community and students that one of the suspects was stopped by Public Safety, and subsequently arrested after being identified by one of the victims. However, last night, at about 8 p.m. we had another incident near Argyros Forum; a female walked out of the building and was grabbed by the hand by a male suspect who was unknown to her. The victim escaped from the suspect and left the scene without further incident.  The suspect was described as a male Hispanic, approximately 40 years of age, 275-300 pounds, 5’10”, wearing blue jeans, a dark blue beanie and a two-tone black & gray rain jacket. Anyone with information is encouraged to call DPS at (714) 997-6763 or the Orange Police Department at (714) 744-7444.

We would also like to offer the following crime prevention tips:

  • Remember to always let someone know where you are going and when you plan to return.
  • Carry safety items such as whistles, flashlights, or pepper spray for nighttime walking, and a cell phone if you have one.
