From the first time Tian Tian stepped onto the Chapman campus, she knew it was the one college that would provide her with an excellent environment to get involved and learn more about herself and the world around her. Tian Tian wants to make a difference in the world, and with Chapman's internship opportunities, academic reputation, and study abroad opportunities, she felt that it would be an excellent place to further her education. Tian Tian also loves the idea of Chapman offering education not only in the "traditional" classroom sense, but focused on educating the whole person—personally and academically. While Tian Tian doesn't yet know what she wants to do after earning her bachelor’s degree besides graduate school, what’s most important to her is finding a career she’s excited about every day. So far, Tian Tian's favorite thing about Chapman is that it's absolutely beautiful. While the most important thing she hopes to take away from her Chapman Experience is exploration of not only academic fields, but of herself, who she is, and what she loves. This summer, she will be babysitting to earn some extra money for college while working on scholarships. Tian Tian says she enjoys babysitting and working with kids, because it keeps her grounded in what really matters in life. When she's not babysitting, Tian Tian loves anything outdoorsy—from hiking to biking to running—as well as playing the flute, which she teaches and has played competitively throughout high school. Playing the flute also led to her favorite traveling experience, which was visiting Ireland with 150 classmates in March 2012 as part of a marching band trip.
Favorite Tunes: Don't judge me, but One Direction. I also like Frank Sinatra-type jazz/swing music. I suppose I like a lot of different types of music styles, including Jason Mraz.
Favorite Books: Pride and Prejudice, The Little Prince, HARRY POTTER!
Favorite Movies: The "Harry Potter" franchise; Tangled, Friends With Benefits, The Parent Trap, Catch Me If You Can, and The Princess Bride.
Favorite video game: Zelda Ocarina of Time
If you could travel anywhere in the world where would it be and why? I would love to travel to England, because English accents are so cool!
Advice for prospective students: Keep your grades up starting freshman year. It would be terrible to see a choice you made freshman or sophomore year prevent you from accomplishing and being where you want four years later as a freshman in college. But even more importantly, I'd say have fun and spend time with those you love.
