Lowery

Richard H. Lowery is a masterful story-teller and lecturer, using humor and keen insight to help us get into Genesis in fresh and provocative ways. Lowery taught for 17 years at Phillips Theological Seminary before beginning adjunct teaching so he could be with his spouse, the Rev. Sharon Watkins, as she serves as the General Minister and President of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He is currently working on a new book, Genesis and Human Rights, and his lectures at Chapman University will help us focus on social justice and human rights themes through key stories in Genesis.

Rita Nakashima Brock

Rita Nakashima Brock, ’72, is Research Professor of Theology and Culture and Founding Co-Director of the Soul Repair Center at Brite Divinity School. A noted theologian, she has lectured all over the world. As Co-Founder of the Soul Repair Center, Dr. Brock has become an internationally recognized expert on the emerging study of moral injury and recovery. She is a commissioned minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Gail Strearns

Dr. Gail Stearns, is The Irvin C. and Edy Chapman Dean of the Wallace All Faiths Chapel, Chapman University. She is an author of two books – Writing Pauline: Wisdom From a Long Life and Open Your Eyes: Toward Living More Deeply in the Present. An ordained minister of the Presbyterian Church (USA), Gail also holds an interdisciplinary Ph.D. from Washington State University, with emphasis in gender theory. She is an Associate Professor of Religious Studies and a teacher of Mindfulness, a meditation that cultivates present awareness, helps reduce anxiety and fosters compassion.
